Surf Camps this Friday: Please read. IN full. 

Good Afternoon from Northeast Surfing. We were notified by the Hull Board of Health today that on Friday, there will be a mandatory camp closure of all surf camps in Hull, MA. Please read below for more details in full, important. Adult & Youth Camps Canceled Thursday and Friday nights.

The week of August 18th: Monday we held two classes. The first was ocean safety & forecasting, and the second was surfboards and wetsuits. Students were shown surfboards and gear, we talked about materials in the boards and what wetsuits are made of. We walked the students to the ocean and talked about the waves, how waves form, forecasting of waves and surfing within your own ability. Rip Currents class, and played games. Tuesday & Wednesday was all surfing, we surf most of the class, making up for Monday & and some of Thursday depending on winds. We plan on giving one more surfing class on Thursday and surf the entire session for 2 hours and 30 minutes. Friday the board of health closed all camps and lessons due to the hurricane coming up the coast. Please read below. 

Surf Academy & Camp: Our goal is to surf daily. We average about an hour and 35 to an hour and 40 minutes of surfing a day. The rest is made up of camp is made of camp stuff. We are able to rearrange the program to balance the approx same amount of surfing per week. Even if we don’t surf for 2 days, we can provide the same experience weekly. We have no control over the weather and conditions, every week is different. Some families experience other issues like small to no waves, beach closing, and more. We all hope for the best week for each student, but weather can be unpredictable. This is a 4 day program with the 5th day free or used as a weather day. If we can’t surf one day we use that day to provide surfing education classes. The Accredited NSSIA surf program mandates 15 minutes a day for surfing education. These classes can be moved around to accommodate weather. Hour surf lessons will be rescheduled this Friday.  

Week Surf Academy (camps, surf school & shop) NO Refund policy: “IMPORTANT” Once payment or deposit is made your space is reserved. Northeast Surfing will NOT refund any payments to any persons with NO exceptions. In the case of a medical emergency only with a medical note written by a doctor’s office. Northeast Surfing will issue a credit for the same academy activity (academy / camps only) to be used within one year by the same camper / student only. “NO CREDITS” without a medical note. This is so important to understand.  

Weather, Week Surf Academy: Northeast Surfing will surf in the rain, while in the ocean you won’t even feel the rain. What we don’t like is strong winds or storms. We will hold the day academy no matter what the weather is like. NO refunds are given based on any weather conditions. No waves, waves too big, flat, thunder classes ending early, etc. If you look at your receipts you paid for 4 days of surf camp with the 5th day free or used as a weather day. The safety of all our students comes first. We very rarely use the weather day, but sometimes this is needed for our students’ safety.

About The Surf Academy:

Our NSSIA Accredited programs introduce ocean safety and surfing etiquette, discuss ocean science topics such as waves and tides, marine biology, winds, coastal ecology and beach profiles, teaches stretching and exercises for young surfers and provides closely supervised instruction in the water. We provide 5 to 7 children to One Staff member while on the beach and in the ocean. Students are taught the surfing lineup to maintain control and safety at all times within small groups of not more than seven, with certified lifeguards on the beach monitoring the safety of all the students. All students must be comfortable in the surf zone. Any students who are not, will not be forced to go into the ocean if afraid.
